LEGACY Day #1

Read Psalm 78:1-8
Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth! I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.
As a sports fanatic, the term "legacy" is often discussed and debated. We love to talk about the careers of great athletes and debate whether Michael Jordan or Lebron James is really the GOAT. But when it comes to our own lives, do we really think about the kind of legacy we are leaving? Regardless of age, circumstance, or season of life, we are all creating some type of legacy each day. For some, it is reflected on our wives, children, and maybe grandchildren. For others, it's reflected on our friends, classmates, or coworkers. We have all been given a sphere of influence to "tell the coming generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord" as referenced in Psalm 78.

This mandate is not intended to be a burden to bear, but a wonderful responsibility to impact the people around us. As we move through each day, week, month, and year, it's easy to get caught up in the normal routines and rhythm of life. However, I hope we will learn to consider each moment, both public and private, as an opportunity to establish the legacy that God has called us to leave.

There are many times (probably too often) that I reflect on how I missed opportunities to build a good legacy but I try to immediately use it as motivation to not repeat the same mistakes and to change habits.

I'm so thankful for the men God has placed in my path that help sharpen me as I need.
